The Transcript For This Page
PANEL ONE (upper lefthand quarter of page)
_Resplendent Quetzal_ moves toward us at an angle, sails first.
She wears the topsail Echeverria-Estrella gave her. It's the bottom
(ventral?) sail of the foretier.
Crew (aboard the ship, musical): ' ... So cheer up m'lads, be your
hearts bold an' free, for the good _Resplendent Quetzal_ an' the
Monopolity!'
Narrative (Tarrant): 'For weeks, we sailed deeper into interstellar
territory claimed by the Jendyne Empery-Cirot, the danger growing
every minute.'

PANEL TWO (upper righthand quarter of page)
In the lookout's post (the fancy topsail could show in the
background) an order is given by Mr. Ngo, who is peering through his
powerful catadioptric telescope. (These people are not primitive, they
just can't use electronics aboard ship.) The order is received by a different, younger boy than the one we've already seen. The lookout is a rugged-featured man with a
big 'soup strainer' moustache.
Ngo: ''Tell Captain two ships dead ahead. Tell 'im they hain't got no
sails. They be flatsies, wantin' t'parley'd be my guess!'
Boy: 'On my way, Mr. Ngo!'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
PANEL THREE (lower lefthand quarter of page)
The command deck. The boy points upward a little and into space at
a pair of vessels (tiny in the distance, one above and to the left of
the other) like Bretta's runabout, closely resembling the Martian war
machines from George Pal's _War of the Worlds_, except the glowing
parts are golden yellow instead of green. At the moment, there's
nothing to indicate scale.
Bretta is on deck with Krumm. So is Mr. Valentine.
Valentine: 'They'd like to come aboard, Captain.'
Boy: 'Mr. Ngo says these here 'flatsies' has some way of makin'
electronicals work inside their #-fields.'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
PANEL FOUR (lower right quarter of page)
Lovely Bretta leans down to address the little lookout's mate. An
opportunity for some cleavage.
Bretta: '_Nacyl_, Ian. They call themselves _Nacyl_.'
Boy: 'Yes'm. These here nassils uses radar, as we does planetside, an'
'puters, an' can see us long afore we see them.'
