The Transcript For This Page

PANEL ONE

Krumm shouts out, looking like an enraged King Kong, as the Islays
watch him.

Krumm: '_Resplendent Quetzal_ to me! Return to the ship. Let's get our
spars untangled. You ready, Captain Martyn?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL TWO-handed

Shot of the Islays.

Arran: 'Let's try 'Captain Islay'. And I will be as soon as I dispose
of my unwelcome guests.'

Bretta: 'Uh, Daddy?'

PANEL THREE

The liftdeck. Crewmen are still cramming Jendyne prisoners into
the space elevator. Their faces at the windows remind the reader of
the original Star Trek episode _The Mark of Gideon_, which concerned a
grossly overpopulated planet.

Arran and Bretta watch.

Arran: 'That's enough, men. Close and dog that hatch!'

Bretta: 'Uh, Daddy ... ?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL FOUR

Looking downward from the lifteck ceiling at the elevator. (We can
see Arran and Bretta and the others standing around.) It has now sunk
partly into the floor (which is sealed around it like a camera iris)
about two thirds of the way. The cabelle is unreeling from where it's
stored on a half deck above called the orlop. Made of super-strong
material, it's no larger than a big man's wrist.

Arran: 'Steam winch, lower away!'

Bretta: 'Uh, Daddy ... ?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL FIVE

As the elevator passes through the floor, the iris device closes
over it. We see this as almost complete. Normally, the iris would stop
and seal around the cabelle. We're about two feet short of that.

Bretta (whispers): 'Daddy, what are you _doing_ to those poor
people?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL SIX

Arran looks his daughter in the eye.

Arran: 'You mean the poor people who were trying to kill you, twenty
minutes ago?'
