The Transcript For This Page

Four Panels

PANEL ONE (upper lefthand quarter of page)

A fairly modest pair of frosted glass doors set in a frosted glass
wall alongside the corridor. Sconces on the walls. Standing either
side of the door is a pair of guards in antiquated uniforms, but with
perfectly modern thrustibles on their arms.

The one on our right is righthanded, the other lefthanded, so that
it's their inside arms that guard the door. Their weapons-bearing arms
are crossed in front of the doorway and vaguely pointed at the reader.

In the foreground, still straddling his machine, but with one foot
on the ground, the narrator, seen from the back, regards them.

Guard #1: 'Halt! Stand where you are!'

Guard #2: 'Friend or foe? What's the password?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL TWO (upper righthand quarter of page)

Closeup of the narrator, a wry expression on his face.

Narrator: 'How about, 'Look behind you'?'

Narrative: 'I hadn't been given any password.'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL THREE (lower lefthand quarter of page)

Back to the guards, but from the knees up or closer. They're doing
a spectacular double-take. The lefthand door has opened a little, and
in the space between it and the righthand door, a graceful female hand
and wrist (showing a bit of lace) have emerged (parallel with the
slightly opened door), the index finger crooked, summoning the
narrator.

Guard #1: 'Why, Ma'am!'

Guard #2: 'Your Ceosity!'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL FOUR (lower right quarter of page)

The Narrator, halfway through the still mostly-closed door. On
either side, a goggling guard.

Narrator: 'Take care of my machine, will you, fellows? Wipe her down
and give her a bag of oats.'

Narrator: 'And wipe that expression off your faces -- my heart belongs
to another!'

Lia (unseen, from inside): 'Thank you, gentlemen.'
