This is a preview of: Phoebus Krumm

The Transcript For This Page

One Panel (splash page)

Most of the panel is taken up by the image of an enormous naked
man sitting in an 'easy' chair, facing the reader. His long hair and
great beard float free in a frizzy ball of grey all about his head.
His fingers wrap over the ends of the arms. His hairy legs are spread
wide. His head is thrown back a little as if in sleep. He looks
something like a gigantic Asian idol.

Between his legs a nearly naked girl kneels, her ponytailled head
preventing us from seeing (but not knowing) what she's doing to him.
Her hands are not involved, since they're at her sudes, almost behind
her back, connected by an eighteen inch chain. She looks tiny in
comparison with the man. At either side of the chair stands another
nearly naked girl -- they look small, too, but they are quite
obviously not children -- one with a tray of food and drink (in
baggies, some with straws), the other holding the business-end of a
hookah-like device.

Phoebus Krumm is around seven feet tall and weighs perhaps 500
pounds. He looks fat, but most of his bulk is muscle. Facially, he
resembles Wallace Beery.

At the bottom of the panel we can see Demondion-Echeverria's head
in silhouette.

Demondion-Echeverria: 'Phoebus! Rouse yourself!'

Krumm: 'By my oath, leave me alone, Frantisek!'

Narrative: 'They called him 'Krumm the Baker', which sounded ominous
-- until you learned he'd been a 17-year-old apprentice in a colonial
world bakery when he was kidnapped by pirates and pressed into service
aboard their ship. Before they overcame him, he killed 11 of them with
an oven implement.'
