Escape From Terra is updated with new pages every Monday through Friday.
Kickstarter Success!
The Not-Safe-Space 2 Kickstarter Campaign has ended successfully. Thanks to all who pledged!
Now we get to wait 2 weeks while Kickstarter transmits the funds, and Scott can order the books, and send surveys to backers to get current e-mail addresses for the .PDF versions and mailing addresses for the physical books.
All of this should show up in June.
The Transcript For This Page
Panel 1
In the control room, Lili interrupts Ernie's convo with Harmon to ask a question.
Lili: Ask him why it's a sphere.
Ernie: Oh yeah – Doc, how come this thing is a nearly perfect sphere?
Panel 2
Another panel where we see Harmon in an inset panel in the upper left. The main panel needs to have distinctive borders indicating it is an 'imaginary scene,' illustrating what Harmon is describing. In the scene, a potato-shaped version of the black comet is getting hit by a rock about 1/8 its size, moving fast.
Harmon: My guess is that at some point in its history, it got smacked hard by a smaller rock.
Harmon: Just hard enough to temporarily melt the ice, not hard enough to blow it all to hell.
Panel 3
Another 'imaginary scene panel,' with an inset showing Harmon in a right-side corner. Now the black comet is looking more spherical, although the edges are wobbly – the ice has turned to water and is re-shaping itself before it freezes again.
Harmon: The water reached hydrostatic equilibrium, relaxed into a spherical shape and then refroze.
Harmon: The shock wave from the impact may also have pulverized the carbon surface to a fine dust. Cool, huh?
Panel 4
Cut back to Ernie in the control cabin, with Lili in the background.
Ernie: Thanks, doc. I'll keep you in the loop and let you know if your speculation pans out.
Ernie: If it does, I think we should call it the 'Harmon Effect.'
Harmon (filtered): Works for me, Ernie.
