The Transcript For This Page

PANEL ONE (upper lefthand quarter of page)

Outside _Resplendent Quetzal_, at the stern, just below the level
of the liftdeck, Bretta -- wearing a light spacesuit -- steps up from
the back of Rakush to a small, opened access port.

Bretta: 'Very well, Rakush. At least we know it can be done.'

Narrative (Tarrant): 'According to the Baker's recipe, the focus
shifted to Bretta, and her _lamina_ ... '

PANEL TWO (upper righthand quarter of page)

Three figures standing at the big table in Krumm's quarters, which
is covered with papers and blueprints: Demondion-Echeverria (on the
side of the table directly away from us -- light him from underneath
to make him look sinister), Krumm (at the left side) and Bretta (at
the right side), who is leaning way over to absorb some detail.

She's still wearing her spacesuit. The helmet is on one corner of
the table.

Bretta: 'You're certain this is the #-field generator, in the orlop,
of all places?'

Krumm: 'Aye, and there's no secondary. The notion's that the coiled
cabelle protects it.'

Narrative (Tarrant): ' ... and to what she needed to know of the
interior of _Sweek Lestvoh_.'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL THREE (lower lefthand quarter of page)

Closeup on Bretta, also lit from underneath, looking very unhappy.
Demondion-Echeverria's face hovers at her shoulder like an evil
spirit.

Bretta: 'Phoebus, most of _Sweek Lestvoh_'s complement will have been
pressganged. If I do this, hundreds of innocent people will -- '

Demondion-Echeverria: 'You cannot make an omelet, my dear, without
breaking eggs.'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL FOUR (lower right quarter of page)

Krumm casts a side-ways grimmace towards Demondion-Echeverria.

Krumm: 'I was never that fond of omelets, myself, Frantisek.'

Krumm: 'And I hate this plan of mine, Bretta. I wish we had another.'
