The Transcript For This Page
PANEL ONE
Bretta strides into a Victorian parlor where Krumm is seated with
Demondion-Echeverria and the the Islay children having tea. Tarrant
tags after her. (The sight of the old pirate Krumm with a teacup on
one knee and a scone in his enormous hand -- the pinkie sticking out
-- should be absolutely posterable.)
Everyone seems startled to see her. She holds a huge sandwich in
her hand with a healthy bite taken out of it.
Her servant Jenizelle holds a tray and has been taking care of
guests. At the moment she stands beside Demondion-Echeverria's chair
-- we can't see his hand but we have an idea where it is -- looking
directly at the viewer, her eyes wide, her mouth an O.
Bretta: 'Phoebe, you will manage our beloved moonringed Skye and the
Holdings in my stead. Urgent business calls me otherwhere.'
Bretta: 'Jenizelle, when you are through playing with the Ambassador,
pack me a battle-bag. Their servant will show you what I require.'
Bretta: 'Captain Krumm, you saw my stables when you achieved orbit?
That is where I need to be -- we can depart within the hour.'
PANEL TWO (upper lefthand quarter of page)
Two-shot, closeup. Bretta and Phoebe.
Phoebe (winking): 'Shall I summon the haywagon?'
Bretta: 'No, thank you, dear. I shall avail myself of other means.'

PANEL THREE (upper righthand quarter of page)
Outside, Bretta leads Krumm and Demondion-Echeverria (others are
with them, but they aren't shown at the moment) to a large _legos_
barnlike structure near the machine shop. It has big wooden double
doors, which she is in the midst of opening. It's dark inside.
Bretta: 'I use it to this very purpose, at least three times a week.'

PANEL FOUR (lower half of page)
The doors are opened wide. Bretta stands beside one of them, sort
of Vanna-Whiting what's inside and the others (including kids and
servants, but neither Jenizelle nor Hanebuth) look on.
Inside there is an unfamiliar object which closely resembles the
Martian war machines in George Pal's _War of the Worlds_. (Where they
were green, this one is bright yellow -- except that it's not powered
up at the moment.) From the front it looks like an _art nouveau_
banana. No periscope thingy. It's probably 40 feet wide, and actually
kind of manta-ray shaped.
Bretta: 'We call her our 'runabout' -- a gift from our friends the
_Nacyl_. We can be in synchronous orbit in 15 minutes.'
